Radnor Joinery – Product Information

Whilst each project differs to the next, and we can’t cover all eventualities, here are a few guidelines to help you get the best from your timber doors and windows.

Radnor Joinery’s timber doors and timber windows are hand crafted from solid wood. As with all timber doors and windows, they’ll need protection from the UK weather to ensure that they enjoy a long and happy life.

As a standard practice we will apply 1 coat of a clear base coat to our joinery products prior to delivery unless specified otherwise. The base coat offers some initial protection to the joinery items until they are delivered to site but is no substitution for your final protective coating.

It is essential that an appropriate high quality coating (i.e. exterior grade paint) is applied to all joinery products as soon as possible after delivery. We can’t advise on any particular coating as there are hundreds available, suffice to say that a high quality product is usually more effective than a ‘budget buy’. Each coating manufacturer will have its own specification and recommendations. All faces of joinery items which are exposed to the elements must be sealed with a product which is recommended for exterior use. All planed faces must be ‘resealed’ immediately.

It is essential to store all joinery products on a dry level surface in a dry environment prior to coating and fitting. If your joinery products become damp or wet before being painted, they may swell and move.

We recommend using corrosion resistant fixings.

Glazing bead is supplied with our windows.

We don’t supply glass as it is easily broken during transit and adds to the handling weight. Our joinery is rebated to accommodate 24mm double glazing which can be purchased directly from your local building supplies.

We recommend that your timber doors and windows are installed and sealed by professional trades people.

We can’t be held responsible for any movement in our joinery or timber products after delivery. We inspect every product prior to be loading to ensure they are in perfect condition. Once the products are delivered, it’s the customer’s responsibility to ensure that they are suitably protected (i.e. painted with suitable paint) stored and fitted.

TIMBER CHOICE

Your choice of timber species for your doors and windows is a personal thing.

Scandinavian Redwood – if you require a quality product which is more affordable than hardwoods, you may opt for our softwood option from high quality Scandinavian Redwood. Whilst being the lease expensive option, it can still enjoy a very long life if well looked after.

Sapele – A popular choice for UK timber doors and windows for many years. A tough, durable timber which has a smooth finish and is easy to paint.

Oak – No introduction needed! Admired worldwide for its durability and longevity. Kiln dried oak doors and windows have been installed in houses, offices, country homes, churches and outbuildings for hundreds of years.
